The Abilene Seventh-day Adventist Church has a rich history that dates back to the early 1900s when Elder T. W. Fields held the first “Tent Meeting” in the area. The West Texas Conference moved its headquarters from Hamby Texas to Abilene in 1912 and an official church group formed that same year with 38 members. Of those members, 28 of them were new. The Abilene church has continued to grow, and it is blessed to have its own Junior Academy that serves grades K-6. The church is active in ministry and in serving its community.

Joel Navarro comes from Europe’s sunniest country, Spain. During his childhood, Pastor Navarro remembers seeing his father serve as a Seventh-day Adventist Pastor. He believes he grew up hearing his call to ministry and, in turn it gave him “itchy feet” which led him to pursue his theology education in three different countries, the U.S., France and Spain. While he was in Spain, he met his lovely bride Martha who is from the United States and studying at Colegio Adventista de Sagunto for one year as part of the Adventist Colleges Abroad Program. Together, they have served as a pastoral and missionary family in Spain, the U.S. and Hong Kong. Most recently, both Martha and Pastor Navarro decided to go back to school. He completed a Master of Divinity degree and Martha received her Master’s in Social Work, both from Andrews University. Pastor Navarro and Martha have a young daughter and are currently serving the district of Abilene and San Angelo, TX.
