The Cañon Plaza Spanish Seventh-day Adventist Church has a long-standing history in the Texico Conference dating back to 1956 when it was established. According to a Record article published in 1956, a colporteur by the name of Jose Espinosa came to Vallecitos Canyon, New Mexico in the 1930s. As he stood on the mountain over-looking the valley, he earnestly prayed that the Lord give him at least one soul out of that community. The Lord answered his prayer, and as a result of his work, Deciderio Chacon made his decision for Christ several years later. In 1956, Chacon along with family and friends started meeting in a public schoolhouse and later built a church to worship. The Cañon Plaza church members have a passion for sharing Jesus’ love with others and telling of His soon return.
